19 August 2025 — On World Humanitarian Day, an international day honouring humanitarian workers, especially those who’ve given their lives in service, we reflect on our shared responsibility to uplift one another, unite across cultures, and deepen community-driven development.

This year’s theme, “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,” perfectly resonates with our mission: a diaspora-led movement committed to mutual support and lasting impact in Malawi and internationally.

Umodzi Responds: Real Impact, Real Lives

Cyclone Freddy Relief (2023)
When Cyclone Freddy wreaked havoc across southern Africa, with Malawi being the hardest hit, Umodzi’s diaspora community mobilised quickly. We collectively raised over 3 million Malawi Kwacha, delivering urgently needed survival essentials to affected families. This act of solidarity helped communities begin the crucial process of recovery and healing.

Support for a Family with a Child Living with a Disability (2024)
In December 2024, Umodzi extended a hand to a single parent raising a child with a disability, providing temporary relief items while pursuing sustainable solutions. This gesture reinforces our belief that every individual, especially those facing adversity, deserves dignity, inclusion, and opportunity.
