Umodzi wa a Malawi in Germany at European Co-Creation Day.

Celebrating Diversity, Dialogue and Co-existence
Umodzi wa a Malawi in Germany e.V. was represented at the European Co-Creation Day held on 25 September 2026 at the BUPNET premises in Göttingen. The event embraced people from different backgrounds to connect, exchange ideas and reflect on diversity, belonging and participation in Europe.

The event, co-funded by the European Union, was organised through a cooperation between Cafe Third Space, blinc and BUPNET, in partnership with the Boat People Project and Stadtradio Göttingen. The day featured welcome and icebreaker activities, creative workshops, intercultural food and opportunities for participants to engage with one another and the project team.

Many Stars, Many Perspectives

One of the activities invited participants to reflect on “Our European Sky – Many Stars, Many Perspectives.” Participants were asked to share a personal association, hope, experience or idea that they believe contributes to making Europe a place of diversity, belonging and participation.

Contributing to this activity, Mada D. Nkhoma, an executive member of Umodzi wa a Malawi in Germany e.V., identified “co-existence” as an important element that makes the European sky brighter.

The activity offered a simple but powerful way of recognising that Europe’s strength can be reflected in the ability of people with different backgrounds, cultures, experiences and perspectives to live, participate and build communities alongside one another.

“Many stars, many perspectives” captured the spirit of the gathering: different individual contributions coming together to create a shared picture of Europe. Beyond the creative activities, the event provided an opportunity for participants to engage in wider conversations around diversity, community and social inclusion.

Dialogue on European Sky and positive expression of feelings and opinions

For diaspora communities such as Malawians living in Germany, these spaces are particularly valuable. They provide opportunities to share experiences, build connections with other communities and contribute perspectives shaped by different cultural and social backgrounds.

Umodzi wa a Malawi in Germany e.V. sees participation in such initiatives as part of its broader commitment to connecting Malawians in Germany with wider community, cultural and social opportunities while contributing positively to dialogue within German and European society.

The European Co-Creation Day demonstrated the value of creating spaces where people can meet, listen to one another and contribute their ideas.

A demonstration of oneness, eating together

The message from the European Sky activity was particularly fitting: a diverse Europe can be understood as a shared sky made brighter by its many individual stars and perspectives. Co-existence, dialogue and participation can help those different perspectives exist alongside one another while contributing to a shared sense of community.
